Categories in AccuBooks Plus allow you to organize, classify, and filter your master data for cleaner reporting and streamlined tracking.

Purpose of Categories

The Categories feature serves as an organizational framework to segment your core business entities. By grouping similar items together, you can generate more granular financial reports, simplify search workflows, and maintain a highly structured ledger.

You can apply categories across four primary data types:

• Customers: Group clients by region, industry, or tier (e.g., Local, International, VIP).
• Vendors: Classify suppliers based on the goods or services they provide (e.g., Utilities, Raw Materials, Logistics).
• Products: Organize inventory or physical goods into distinct lines or families (e.g., Electronics, Office Supplies).
• Services: Segment your service offerings for better revenue tracking (e.g., Consulting, Maintenance, Subscriptions).

Step-by-Step Guide: Adding a New Category

Follow these steps to create and configure a new category in the system:

Step 1: Navigate to Categories

1. Open the left navigation sidebar.
2. Scroll down to the SETUP section.
3. Click on CONFIGURATIONS to expand the menu.
4. Under Master Data, click on Categories.
5. Click the Add button (or navigate directly to the creation page).

Step 2: Fill out the Category Details

1. Select the Type: Click the Type dropdown menu and choose the master data classification this category belongs to (Customers, Vendors, Products, or Services).
2. Enter the Name: Type a clear, recognizable name for your category in the Name field.
3. Add a Description: Use the Description text box to provide additional context regarding what should be included under this category.

Step 3: Save Your Changes

1. Review the details you entered to ensure accuracy.
2. Click the green Save button to finalize and add the category to your system.
3. If you need to exit without saving, click the Back button in the top right corner.
